Eric & Julie Friese
September 2010
When Eric and Julie Friese moved back to northeastern Ohio in December of 2009, they were determined to continue living the active and healthy lifestyle they enjoyed in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Most of their summer was spent biking in Colorado…with so many trails to explore. Here in Ohio, they have discovered the Cuyahoga Valley Towpath. As residents of Cuyahoga Falls, they use their bikes to cruise around neighborhoods, make trips to the store, and attend events, such as Rockin’ on the River. Eric maintains, “Cycling is good exercise as you reduce carbon footprints, but most of all it’s fun! It’s like you are a kid again!”

Julie’s favorite bike is Bianchi Parco Milano. Eric’s favorite is a Felt Custom Cruiser. Julie and Eric hope to see Ohio become more mountain and road bike friendly. They would like to see more bike lanes for commuters.

Their most memorable trip was cycling the Mad Creek Trail in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, accompanied by their dog, Sunny. Mad Creek Trail is beautiful with Aspen Groves, boulders, and deep canyon views. This trail is shared by cyclists, hikers, and horseback riders.

When asked about advice for fellow cyclists, Julie responded, “Buy your bike from a local dealer. You’ll receive personalized service. And buying locally helps our local economy.”

In addition to cycling, Eric and Julie enjoy skiing, hiking, running, cooking, and activities with their dog. You might find them hiking the Shumacher Trail in the Cascade Metro Park, or one of the trails at Virginia Kendall. They like to hike around Hinckley Lake in the winter. Just as they did in Colorado, they enjoy finding a remote trail to explore.

They have discovered many reasons to like living in the greater Akron area. Family and friends top the list. They have found many good restaurants to patronize. Proximity to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is a bonus. They have come to appreciate an abundance of trails off urban settings…allowing for adventure.

Eric is manager of Shisler’s Cheese House in Copley. Julie works at Akron City Hospital as a nursing student. She is pursuing her studies through Kent State University. They enjoy living in Cuyahoga Falls with Sunny, their dog, and Pumpkin, their cat. Welcome back to Ohio, Eric and Julie!
