A few years ago Rickshaw Willie’s own Mom was unable to ride a bike due to health issues. So he thought, “Boy, it would be nice to give someone a ride who otherwise couldn't cycle. “ Rickshaw Willie began looking on the Internet for ideas and came upon a company selling pedicabs out of Denver, Colorado. Rickshaw Willie’s wife said he was too old to start such a service, and his daughter added that a pedicab service wouldn’t work in Akron. Undaunted by their comments, Rickshaw Willie ordered a pedicab. At the age of fifty-seven he has an active pedicab service in downtown Akron. Rickshaw Willie doesn’t really earn a living riding his pedicab. He relies on his truck driving job for income.
Rickshaw Willie is a common sight in downtown Akron. He has befriended the police, bar and restaurant owners, and countless others. It can be said that Rickshaw Willie has a heart of gold. Through his pedicab service, Rickshaw Willie helps to promote Akron. Rickshaw Willie follows the Stride walkers so that he is able to assist any walkers who may be having difficulties completing the walk, since breast cancer survivors currently going through treatment will sometimes choose to participate. Rickshaw Willie has offered his pedicab services to many brides and grooms on their special day. This service is free.
