Albert Santilli - May 2013
As a child, Albert loved anything that was fast…his BMX bike or his skateboard. He would build rims to be in the air. This drove his Mom crazy! Albert is still very passionate about cycling, although he has relaxed with the stunts. He wants to take care of himself for his other passion, which happens to be music.
Albert is a business major at The University of Akron. He is looking forward to graduating in a few months. He commutes to and from the university, and around the campus on his bike. Albert shared, “On nice days, I sit in class and count down the minutes ‘til I can hop on my bike.” You may see Albert riding his bike anywhere in Akron, especially the Highland Square area. He really feels it’s more practical to ride a bike than to drive a car. He just wishes there was more of a biking culture in the area.
According to Albert, “Life is chaotic…cycling is such a good outlet.” He has this important advice to share with his fellow cyclists: “Take the lane confidently.” He feels that this will help the bike rider to remain safe, especially on busy streets. In addition to the greater Akron area, one of Albert’s favorite spots to cycle is Chagrin Falls. He maintains, “The hills are challenging and the scenery is nice.”
Albert shared that he is “A man of good simplicity.” He likes nature. He and his girlfriend love to hike. “Hiking is one more way to clear the mind,” according to Albert. In addition to biking and hiking, Albert is an incredible musician. He plays jazz piano and is a keyboardist for a local reggae band, Throne Gone Down.
Originally from Pepper Pike, Albert resides in downtown Akron while he attends The University of Akron. While living here he has discovered a gem…called The Spot. The Spot is a little known destination off High Street, next door to the Uncorked Wine Bar. It is frequented by cyclists, musicians and artists.
Albert also likes to stop in at Blimp City Bike & Hike. He maintains, “Blimp City is a phenomenal checkpoint for stopping in, getting a drink and having Andy work on my bike.” Albert, we enjoy knowing you as a customer, fellow cyclist, musician and friend. We wish you the best as you graduate and begin the next chapter of your life.
