Nathan Cebula - June 2014
“I like cycling because I like athletics and I like going fast,” shares Nathan Cebula, Blimp City’s June Cyclist of the Month. Nathan would categorize himself as a competitive cyclist. This cyclist trains year-round, favoring wider tires, wind proof clothing and slower speeds in winter.
Nathan has always enjoyed competition. He rode a bike as a child but stopped in junior high to participate in sports. After college, he took up running and competed in half marathons. Nathan was forced to stop running when he developed plantar fasciitis. Six month later Nathan bought a bike. Three weeks later he started competing in organized events at the pro amateur level. Since then, Nathan has competed most weekends when not working or opting to participate in family activities.
Nathan is a member of Team TRU (Teach, Ride, Unite). Team TRU is a squad of bicycle enthusiasts who ride, race and advocate for cycling safety and awareness by speaking to community groups, youth organizations and government bodies.
Team TRU was started by a cyclist who had several road rage incidents with one particular motorist while riding to work. In their final encounter, the motorist pulled in front of the cyclist and brake checked causing impact and severe injuries to the cyclist. For more information regarding Team TRU, please visit their website:
www.teamtru.org.
As a member of Team TRU, Nathan has this advice to share with his fellow cyclists: “Be aware of your surroundings, where everyone is around you. Don’t second guess motorists whether you are out by yourself or in a group.”
Nathan is engaged and lives in Stow. Originally from Pittsburgh, he especially appreciates the hilly terrain of the Valley area for cycling. Once a week he’ll cycle to his workplace in Beachwood where he is doing an architectural internship. Nathan, Blimp City wishes you great success in your future cycling competitions, career and marriage!
