Susan Colville-Hall - October 2014

Susan Colville-Hall could almost say that she fell in love with cycling when she met her husband, Steve Hall, while both were riding the Divide to Cripple Creek. The truth is that she fell in love with her husband and then became much more interested in cycling. Cripple Creek is an old mining town located just behind Pike’s Peak in Colorado.
When asked to name her favorite spot to cycle, Susan shared, “I like to cycle in different areas, finding little towns and special places.” Susan has found many special places both near and far. Susan’s husband belongs to a bike club called Team ROMEO, an acronym for Retired Old Men Eating Out. This team consists of a group of seasoned riders that bike everywhere and enjoy meals together. Susan belongs to the female counterpart of this squad called Team JULIET. JULIET is an acronym for Just Unique Ladies Interested in Eating Too. The ROMEOS and JULIETS have recently biked to both Dayton and Sandusky on separate occasions. There have been bike trips to northwestern Ohio that combined biking and visiting wineries.
Farther away from home, Susan’s favorite trip was with the IBTS (International Bike Touring Society), through the French Alps. “It was thrilling to think that we were travelling through the same passes as Tour De France. And the scenery was extraordinary!”
Susan has this advice to share with her fellow cyclists: “Set a pace and work on technique. A lot of people give up cycling because they tire. Keep your butt in shape...ride a little at a time, especially if you haven’t been on a bike lately.”
Susan enjoys cycling because “riding a bike has a sense of freedom and power...and accomplishment.” When Susan isn’t riding a bike, she enjoys canoeing, cross country skiing and dragon boating with the Dragon Dream Team. Susan is also a member of the Rotary Club of Akron.
Susan is retired from the University of Akron, College of Education, in the area of Foreign Languages. She lives in Stow with her husband, Steve Hall, and their cat Weaver.
Susan is very enthusiastic about living in the greater Akron area and listed ten reasons she is happy to be here! They are as follows:
